Appeal over EMAS contract decision turned down
The IAA today welcomed the decision to turn down an appeal by East Midlands Ambulance Service against a decision not to award it the contract for running non-emergency transport.
The regional trust received about £20 million a year for running the Patient Transport Service, with 550 staff involved in the scheme. But health commissioners put the contract out to tender last year.
IAA member NSL Ltd was named as the preferred bidder for the contracts in Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire, while Arriva Passenger Services won the deal for Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The ambulance trust lodged an appeal but has now confirmed it had not been upheld.
David Davis, IAA Director of Communications, said: “The choice of provider was awarded on a cost for value basis which should be the basis for all such decisions to be made.”
